Bust of Sappho
I experimented with merging triangles on this 3D scan of the bust of Sappho (thing:105551). It is interesting how it turns into modern almost cubist art as the triangles mesh is simplified.
This decimation technique also works really well with a pen plotter and hidden wireframe removal.
Using my STL wireframe tool, I turned the simplified mesh into a set of cylinders. The test print on the Makerbot worked ok.
The Shapeways print in stainless steel turned out great. You can order your own from shapeways in various materials.
